Consistante v copieuse?

Consistante v copieuse?

I wrote "Notre Salade aux Trois Fromages est [...] et assez copieuse" which was marked as incorrect. Looking at Le Robert, copieux is given as a synonym of consistant so I'm wondering why?

Does copieux mean more that the dish is physically large (ie a lot of food) whereas consistant just means it's filling but doesn't given any indication to the size of the meal?

Bonjour John,

From my research, it looks like copieux suggests abondant or généreux.

Whereas consistant suggests concret, solide, substantiel

So your sense of the two meanings seems to me to be reasonable -- the meal is of a generous / substantial size or quantity of food to eat.

John, I think ‘copieuse’ is fine, as is ‘consistante’.

Despite the English to be translated, neither word really needs a qualifier but ‘plutôt copieuse’ or ‘assez copieuse’ are both used colloquially.
