Confusing prepositions

Je me promene DANS la rue. Je me promene SUR la "Remblai" (je pense la Remblai est une promenade) Je me suis assis EN terrasse. Is there a rule to follow regarding the choice of prepositions or does one simply have to learn by wrote the appropriate preposition?

Hi Frank,

No rule, you just have to learn them with their context.

On se promène dans une rue, dans une ville, dans un quartier, mais sur une esplanade, sur une avenue etc.

Prepositions are hard to get right, and I still make mistakes in English sometimes.

Bonne Continuation !
