Hi Timothy,

You can generally use plaire or aimer but never 'se plaire' as it makes it reflexive or reciprocal.

Take look at the Larousse definition of plaire and se plaire which have lots of examples-

"Aimer" and "plaire" do not have the exact same meaning. I don't know how to explain the difference, but I would say that "aimer" is an emotional liking, whereas "plaire" expresses a more esthetic liking. It is more superficial.
