C'est vs. elles sont

Bonjour à tous !

Yesterday I was chatting with friends and then, I entertained a doubt that I couldn't clear up on my own. Here's the dialogue of two of my friends:

- J’ai aussi acheté des pêches.

- Oui, elles sont très bonnes et populaires

Hi PavelQR,

Elles sont très bonnes is correct but i wouldn’t use the adjectivepopulaire’ to describe foodstuff.

Instead, from the consumer -

Elles plaisent beaucoup

From the seller-

On en vend beaucoup

Hope this helps!

Here is my take on this:

The original speaker spoke about peaches in general (des pêches -- some peaches). In the reply I would, therefore, use ce sont instead of elles sont. Had he made reference to some specific peaches (like he let me peek into his shopping basket), I would use elles sont.
