I think you may be thinking about 'forbidden' liaisons - one of which is AFTER proper names.

Elisions with proper names are routinely used where otherwise indicated. The first example in the attached - "d'Australie'.

Try holding your finger on the letter for a second or so... the choice of accents will appear.. much easier than getting accents on a pc!

Hi Mark, 

Thanks but not liking typing on my iPad, much prefer word processing on my PC. I am staying with French family in Portugal and interestingly enough, my nephew is called Eric, (born in Versailles) and my sister in law says his name has no accent and that she has noticed that more and more it is spelt with one. Wonders never cease !!!
