Aucun vs. personne
"Without any context, how does one differentiate between "none" and "no one" in the phrase "Aucune n'est arrivee" ?"
Asked 4 years ago
Hi Carol,
These are two totally different words with totally different meaning and
no one is personne in French.
Personne n'est arrivé avant 10 h = No one arrived before 10 O'clock
Personne ne lui a parlé = Nobody spoke to her
Hope that helps!

Without context, all you know is that 'none (of them) arrived'. Whether 'them' refers to people, or other animate or inanimate things cannot be deduced from the single sentence, although you do know 'them' represents an all feminine gender noun group.
