Attentionné vs. Attentif

Why isn't 'attentif' not acceptable as well as 'attentionné' in the sentence: "Il est très attentionné..."?

Attentif and attentionné mean two different things.

attentif-- to pay attention, e.g., in class.
He succeeds because he pays attention to what the teacher says.

attentionné -- caring, attentive in the sense of "to look after someone"
Marie est très attentionnée avec ses grand-parents. -- Marie is very caring to her grandparents.

Bonjour Frank,

Thank you for your comment! Chris's explanation about the difference between "attentif" and "attentionné" is excellent!

We've realised that "attentive" might be a bit too ambiguous in this context so we've changed it to "thoughtful"

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Larousse doesn't define it is as completely straightforward, and from their examples, this is a situation in which either could be correct, as below.

SENS
