Aimer/aimer bien

Aimer/aimer bien

I wrote 'Martin aime Sarah ' for the sentence Martin likes Sarah but it was corrected to 'Martin aime bien Sarah'. I know 'aimer 'is tricky and I studies the lesson  but still don't understand the difference.

Hi Barbara,

Just be careful with 'aimer' applied to people -

Aimer une personne is to be in love with them, aimer bien une personne is to like them.

But you can say -

J'aime le Portugal = I like Portugal

J'aime bien le Portugal I quite like Portugal

J'adore le Portugal I love Portugal

Hope this helps!

I just made the same error when answering this question. I don't recall seeing your one line explanation in the lesson plan. If I missed it, my apologies. If not, KWIZIQ add it?
