Aime and aime becoup

"X loves his mum". aime is right and aime beaucoup isn't. Why? Your explanation doesn't make a distinction. How the hell is aime beaucoup wrong?"

Hi Kevin,

I get your point.

I am still surprised how expressing degrees of love towards a human being can throw students in French as it is much simpler in English.

But to express a child's love towards a mother, the options given are -

il aime sa mère

il aime fort sa mère

il adore sa mère

If you were talking about someone else's mother, you would have to be careful as it could be misconstrued for 'love' of a different kind, so you would say

J'aime beaucoup ta mère I really like your mother

Hope this helps!
