A small point about the explanation of the conjugation pattern of these verbs

"In L'imparfait, almost all verbs conjugate in the same way, but verbs ending in -ger require a slight spelling change - an extra 'e' after the soft 'g' - to keep the pronunciation." Since the first-person plural form of 'manger' is 'mangeons', the root is 'mange-'. Isn't it more accurate to say that there is not an extra 'e', but that the 'e' is omitted in 'nous mangions' and 'vous mangiez'?
