Can you also ask this "Tu t'es levé à cinq heures ?"
If not, then why does "Je sors au restaurant" imply that the destination is the restaurant? Since both sentences have the same structure "sortir à"
Bonjour,
Est-ce que c'est ne pas mieux à dire " je me promener" en lieu de je marche?
Merci
Hey,
I often struggle with grammar but am a little confused as to why it is 'de tomates' but followed by 'des fraises' after. both subjects are plural so why is it not 'des tomates' ? I imagine it is to do with 'un kilo de ...' ? Just wondered if anyone could explain this
Thanks!
I thought "gâter" already had a nice sound for to spoil, but then I discover 'chouchouter' in this lesson, and my wife mentions 'dorloter'. They all just sound so 'right' for the sentiment to me. « Ma belle-sœur me chouchoute toujours avec une bonne choucroute. » Can't wait to hit her with that on the next Skype !
On a more grounded note: 'goes and walk the dog', would be either 'goes to walk the dog' (which is fine for the translation) or 'goes and walks the dog', at least in my part of the world.
Also, "la TV" is actually listed in both wordreference and Larousse (to my surprise) - TV is currently not accepted in translation, although it was used in the English script.
Frustrating. I know that you cannot cover every eventuality but with the multiple choice questions, I am so often finding that I have got the topic correct but that there is another trap in the questions but the learn and discuss sends me back to the bit I have got right!.. like when to put -t- between two vowels (a-t-appellé) sends me back to the passé composé I can see that the traps are meant to be helpful but not when we can't see why it is actually wrong and keep making the same mistake.
1. Why can't we use " avec beaucoup des glacons" but we have to use " avec beaucoup de glacons ", why " les " disappears in this case ?
Hello, I still find myself struggling with the passe compose vs imparfait at times. I have copied part of your online test below. The two I got wrong are in red. My logic is that "The place that enchanted me" is an opinion/description, so should be imparfait. "We walked in the garden" has no clear beginning or end, so should be imparfait. Why are these two in fact passe compose?
Merci
Miriam
