Would fly .. volerait?

I was marked wrong for writing: “On volerait de Paris..” instead of “On prendrait l’avion de Paris...”. Can you please explain? Thanks

I believe that only birds "voler," but people "take airplanes" or other conveyances to fly :)

In French, birds, planes etc 'fly' but in general people 'take a flight' - that is my understanding.
