Whether to use le and la with negation

HI,

I have been reading the responses to the questions below. Am I correct to assume that the way to use the indefinite articles with negation is if it's a general statement?

For example.

J'aime ni le café ni le thé

Je veux ni fromage ni oignon

Merci

Yes, in general you omit the definite article in a ne..ni..ni phrase, but if you use it, it becomes a general negation. This follows the same pattern as with, e.g., the verb "aimer".

Thank you Chris so I also use it only with the verb aimer as well for the general statement? Is there any other verbs that would be okay to use besides aimer as a word for a general statement?

Hm, good question. Off the cuff I would say "sentir" is another one. It probably applies to all verbs of feeling. A qualified input from a native speaker would be appreciated, though.

J'aime le café. -- I like coffee.
Je sens le café. -- I smell coffee.
Je déteste le café. -- I hate coffee.
etc.
