s'en occuper
Il s'en occupe tout de suite. Why is "He takes care of them right away." correct but "He takes care of him right away" is wrong. What in that sentence says "them" but not "him"?"

You can't tell from the sentence you post, because en refers back to something prior. But it can't be "him" since en doesn't refer to people.
