Quels vêtements porte-t-il

Quels vêtements porte-t-il

In inversion with il, elle, and on, do you still need the additional -t- in the middle (e.g. porte-t-il) when the verb already ends with a "t" sound? Could it just be porte-il in this case? Or do you say the "t" twice when it is followed by an "e" (which I can't hear on the recording)?

Bonjour Paul,

Using the structure "porte-t-il" is correct here so as to avoid having two vowel sounds next to each other (porte + il). After listening to the audio, we decided to re-record it (in inverted questions structures) so as to make sure you can hear the -e sound better.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Yes, porte-t-il is in fact correct even though you don't need it for fluidity of pronounciation because the final -e in porte is silent anyway,
