Special cases when the past participle agrees (in number & gender) when used with 'avoir' in the compound past in French (Le Passé Composé) The example seems to be straight from this lesson, with simply a change in the subject. The past participle in this situation agrees with the direct object - which is la. (L'a is of course the elision of  «la a» which is why the grammar rule applies). As the agreement is with the direct object, the subject is not relevant in this case.
