Bonjour Ash,
To supplement Jim's answer, here are two examples:
Il a déduit le coût du matériel = He deducted the cost of the equipment
Il a déduit qu'elle ne viendrait pas = He deduced that she wouldn't come
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !

Whereas in French the verb déduire has a double meaning, in English, the two verbs "to deduct" and "to deduce" at least share a common root. The noun "deduction" still can have both meanings: to take away from something as well as to arrive at a logical conclusion.
