Je suis assis?

Is this using the passive voice or is 'assis' an adjective?

Bonjour David,

‘Assis’ is an adjective as Maarten mentioned. It is also now called ‘adjectif participe’ or adjectival form of the verb as it is derived from a verb. See paragraph on past participle as an adjective.

C’est le fauteuil sur lequel je suis assisit is the armchair on which I am sitting

C’est le fauteuil sur lequel je reste assis toute la journée = it is the armchair on which I stay sitting down all day

Les animaux sont perdus dans le nouvel enclos the animals are lost in the new enclosure

Les animaux semblent perdus dans le nouvel enclos = the animals seem lost in the new enclosure

Pattern for Voix Passive:

- The object becomes the subject

- We use the auxiliary être conjugated to one of the simple tenses, followed by the past participle of the verb

- We use the preposition par to introduce the complement.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée!
