...je n'ai pas le choix

Question

La partie de la phrase, en anglais, est "...I don't have a choice..."  Mon interprétation d'anglais était une choix ou du choix et ce n'est pas un particulier choix, qui demanderait l'article 'le'.  Dans ce cas, j'ai écrit "...je n'ai pas de choix" ce qui était faux.  Est-ce que mon interprétation n'est pas correct ?  Pourquoi "le choix" au lieu de "de choix"?

In the case of "to have a choice", you will use the "expression figée" "avoir le choix" in French. ;-) I suppose it's because, in French, we consider that the choice to make is unique  (there's only one - that one) and you are focusing on that particular fact rather than on the potential other options -> the definite article in French
You will encouter the following though: 
ne pas avoir d'autre choix que de + [verb] =not to have any other choice but to [verb]
