Ils s'aimaient jusqu'à la fin. Il se sont aimés jusqu'à la fin. Il me semble que le passé composé n'est pas correct dans cette situation.

imparfait ou passé composé?
Bonjour Raymond,
-> it describes an ongoing state in the past. It suggests that their love was a background (but ongoing) condition that lasted up until the end.
-> The action of loving each other is seen as a one-time completed event. Le Passé Composé implies that there was a distinct moment when they came to love each other and a turning point that meant "the action of loving" stopped (and therefore, was "completed").
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
Quiz: "The two armies look at each other" - pourquoi "se sont regardees" et pas le present ?
Bonjour Lawrence,
I checked this test question and the answer is in Le Présent (se regardent) not in Le Passé Composé. Take another look at your results board.
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
