Hyphenating with « cents »

Why is the example « deux-cents » hyphenated, but « J’ai cinq cents euros. »  is not hyphenated ?  Thank you.

Bonjour Karen,

Following the 1990 Spelling Reform, it is recommended to hyphenate numbers written in letters.

If you want to mention the number in letters only -> deux-cents - deux-cent-trente-cinq / cinq-cents - cinq-cent-trente-cinq

If you want to mention euros you can find both (hyphenated as per the Spelling Reform and not as per the older grammar rule) -> deux cents euros - deux cent trente-cinq euros - deux-cent-trente-cinq euros / cinq cents euros - cinq cent trente-cinq euros - cinq-cent-trentre-cinq euros

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
