How do you tell whether an object is masculine or feminine

As in, I know that 'un' in masculine, and 'une' is feminine, but how do you tell if an everyday object is masculine or feminine.

Well it is a bit tricky. Even fluent speakers (English who have lived in France for years) get it wrong sometimes.

Experience of usage over time, but there are some rules that can be applied - too many to go into here.

Suggest you study this grammar aspect over and over  -- it is not easy but takes practise and perseverance --  sorry I can't give an easy answer.

Bonne continuation!
