Yes, the 2nd sentence in the response from Chris below is incorrect. 

Seems to me that is what Céline clarified when she noted the first response was good, but that a reflexive would only be used when a reflexive was specifically indicated - which is not the case in that sentence with ‘ranger ma chambre ’ ( as opposed to ‘ se couper les cheveux ‘ for instance).

She also included the correct sentence in her response  ‘ Ma mère a fait ranger ma chambre ‘.

What I had in mind was the mother overcoming her own resistance to cleaning up the room. As in: I made myself do it.

Chris, I think that meaning - made/forced self (to) do it - would be conveyed with  se forcer, or perhaps s’obliger - ‘ Ma mère s’est forcée à ranger ma chambre ‘.
