Confusing translation

Question

The excercise translation was poires rose, while the complete tesxt at the end was pois roses. This sort of thing and punctuation at the end of phrases indicated as errors makes me doubt the utility of these exercises.

When I did the exercise just now, it says pois roses in the exercise correction as well as the final text. 
If the correction of punctuation upsets you, you have to remember that this isn't really a "correction" as you would expect it from a tutor. It is showing you the rote differences to the most likely answer. Now it is up to you to assess whether these differences are something you need to pay attention to or not.
What I would change about this exercise is that I would remove mettre la tête sous l'eau from the vocabulary. This isn't an idiomatic expression nor does it contain any difficult to understand words. But I would add maillot de bain to it.

I agree. Adding maillot de bain to the vocabulary would greatly help. I struggled mightily over that part.
