Hi Nicole,

You will no doubt appreciate that there will be numerous types of cable and animals.

So to make it clear just what classification of the noun is being expressed, so an adjective is employed to make this distinction.

What cable? Electric cable.

What animal? A wild animal (not domestic)

I haven't come across the term "component adjective" but I assume that is what is being meant here.

Hope it helps.

Jim

This kind of classification isn't really essential at all. The important part to remember is that adjectives further describe a noun and are usually placed after the noun. With this, you'll be correct in about 80% of the cases.

There are also adjectives that go before the noun, and some adjectives change meaning depending on whether they precede or succeed a noun. Kwiziq will offer specific lessons on these topics in due course.
