Is there any difference in the meaning or tone of “comment ça se fait” compared to “pourquoi”? In English, we sometimes say “how come” rather than “why” to avoid sounding curt or accusatory. Thank you!

“comment ça se fait” vs “pourquoi”
This question relates to:French lesson "Comment ça se fait/Comment se fait-il que... ? = How come/How is it that...? (French Questions)"
Asked 1 year ago
Bonjour N.,
You will hear "comment ça se fait ?" used isntead of "pourquoi ?" Just like in English, "pourquoi ?" can sound more direct and a bit curt (depending on who is saying it and the context of the discussion !!) compared to the more formal "Comment ça se fait ?".
I hope this si helpful.
Bonne journée !
