I think this is a typo in the last sentence. It should be "cet après-midi" not "cette".

No, it's not an error. Either cet or cette is correct -- l'après-midi can be either masculine or feminine.

Yes, but note that there is a slight difference in nuance. The female version emphasizes the duration (like, e,g,, matinée).
