Conjugate suivre (+avoir) in the compound past in French (Le Passé Composé)

In Le Passé Composé (Indicatif) (conversational past), the verb suivre (to follow) and derivatives* use the auxiliary avoir and conjugate as follows:

tu as suivi

ils/elles ont suivi

Here's the pattern to conjugate suivre in Le Passé Composé (Indicatif) :

avoir in Le Présent (Indicatif) + suivi

 

Note that with avoir as an auxiliary, past participles never agree with the subject of the verb:

Il a suivi son cœur.He followed his heart.

Elle a suivi son cœur.She followed her heart.

* Other verbs in -suivre follow the same conjugation:

poursuivre (to pursue/to chase after/to sue) -> j'ai poursuivi
ressuivre (to follow again) -> j'ai ressuivi
