When I was planning my trip abroad for my sabbatical year, I had contacted my bank to see if there was an alternative to travel money which did not involve carrying around wads of foreign currencies or traveller's cheques. Besides, travelling with lots of banknotes had always seemed risky to me. Although my bank manager had advised me to take some cash with me, he had also provided me with a prepaid travel card. I had never heard of it before, but they turned out to be far easier to use than my traditional solution. Once I had activated and registered the card, adding funds to it had been child's play! On my trip, I was able to use it in every foreign country that I visited, which made everything a thousand times more enjoyable. Obviously, I'll use one again next time I go abroad.

I'll be right with you...
