Louis Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15 1769 in the Corsican city of Ajaccio. His family belonged to the island's nobility. At 10 years old, he spoke Corsican and he didn't speak French very well. In 1778, he left Corsica to go and study in France. After that, he came back only six times. His last stay on the island was in 1799, but he always remained Corsican in his heart. Corsica still celebrates him with many statues and celebrations.
