Bonjour Raymond !

The novel Les Misérables was written over two periods of time. Victor Hugo started this epic project in 1845 until February 1848 when he put it on hold (probably distracted by the political climate of the time).

He resumed his writing in exile in December 1860, and the novel was published in March 1862.

As for its length, it depends on the chosen font of course, but my own edition was about 2 000 pages long, divided into 2 volumes :) It seems huge, but it is definitely worth the read!

Bonne lecture !
